Goodbye Ferrari F12 berlinetta, Welcome 812 Superfast!

A new Ferrari is always an important moment. Indeed, February 16, 2017 is marked with a cross on the calendar because it is the feast of my colleague Michel Deslauriers but also because the Maranello brand in Italy has just unveiled the first images of the 812 Superfast, a car that comes to replace the already aging F12 berlinetta. People will be able to see it in person at the next Geneva Motor Show, which will take place at the beginning of March.

Goodbye Ferrari F12 berlinetta, Welcome 812 Superfast!

First of all, while the trend is for smaller engines with less fuel consumption, the 812 Superfast (simply call 812, if you do not mind) will receive a new 6.5-liter V12 from 800 horsepower to 8 500 rpm and 530 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm. A V12 that runs on these schemes must be very nice to listen to!

If Ferrari is only at the head of the engine, it follows the trend of electronic management. For the first time, a Ferrari will be equipped with electric power steering (EPS). This direction will be integrated with the other Side Slip Control (SSC) components and the Virtual Short Wheelbase system 2.0 for extreme handling and handling. This Virtual Short Wheelbase system had already worked in the F12 berlinetta but the 812 will be entitled to version 2.0.

Ferrari promises a 0-100 km / h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of more than 340 km / h. In addition to the LaFerrari, the 812 will be the most powerful and fastest Ferrari series ever built. The name Superfast (taken from the Ferrari 500 Superfast built between 1964 and 1966) is therefore not usurped!

By the way, Ferrari does not mention the model year of the 812 but I imagine it will be a 2018 model.

A brand new Ferrari or an evolution?

The lines of the 812 are near those of the berlinetta F12 even if they are all new. Ferrari did not unveil the wheelbase of the 812 but the total length is only 1 mm more than that of the F12 berlinetta. From there to say that the 812 Superfast is only an evolution of the F12 berlinetta there is only one step that I am not ready to do before testing the two cars, one after the 'other.
